CEO Speaks 8.26.23

Happy Saturday, and welcome to CEO Speaks for Saturday, August 26, 2023.

This past week, I had the pleasure of being in San Francisco, CA, where, in just over a month, we will be hosting the TMA 35th Anniversary Annual Conference at the Fairmont Hotel, and what a delight it was to be back in the Bay Area.

The city was vibrant and alive, and those of us who were there reveled in the moment and spoke to how excited we all are for what our members from all over the world can look forward to in this special city at a time of year when the sun always shines, and this year, when our conference will coincide with San Francisco fleet week, a show of great delight you can stay for and enjoy.

The conference experience itself, with nearly 400 members already registered, will be one of our most eclectic and animated experiences to date.   With our theme of lighting the way forward, we will celebrate the luminaries of our industry with a gala champagne brunch as we induct Kelley Cornish, Jay GoffmanLaura Davis JonesWilliam Snyder, and Al Togut into the TMA Hall of Fame, a once in every five-year event that is amongst the most prestigious recognitions in our industry.

These giants of the corporate restructuring, reorganization, and corporate health space will also be part of a very special panel sponsored by Gordon Bros., where moderator Frank Grimaldi, our VP of Conferences, will lead a discussion of the life lessons and experiences that brought these luminaries to where they are today while lighting the way forward for the newer members of our industry.

Speaking of newer members of our industry, this Annual will again be host to the TMA Restructuring Boot Camp, already highly subscribed, where our Certified Turnaround Professionals, established legal practitioners, and members of the judiciary will lead this interactive workshop on the basics of restructuring management, finance, and law.

This year, as a bonus program, TMA Chicago-Midwest member Jill Kirshenbaum will lead an interactive workshop on brand building and networking, something she herself exhibits with confidence and power in our rough and tumble competitive world.

Our always, sell-out TMA NOW/IWIRC Luncheon, already close to being sold out, will this year create a pure networking experience in that will turn attention to three California charities that focus on women’s initiatives.

This year’s real and relevant education panels will offer thought leadership on some of the most important topics at play and will include lively discussions on topics such as Shining the Light on a Nation’s Future: The Rebirth of America’s Cities; Short Term Pain, Long Term Gain in the Era of AI and Automation, The Calamity of Climate Change: A Perfect Storm and Its Impact on the Worldwide Economy, and more.

Of course, no TMA Conference would be complete without the best-in-class networking our members know and love, where in that one connection that is you, your network will be reinforced and built further.  Whether that be at events like the gala 35th-anniversary opening reception or optional events like the San Fransisco Chocolate Immersion Workshop or California Sommelier Wine Tasting Workshop, there will be an opportunity to be a part of something bigger as together we light the way forward at this grand and defining three days.

Be part of the story that will define TMA Tomorrow by registering for the conference today. It promises to be grand and will again redefine industry excellence in many outstanding ways. Our conference committee, led by TMA stand-out volunteers Jennifer MercerMichael Rosow, and Kevin Otus, continues the hard work of refining our stellar programming, and there will be much more to come in the weeks to follow.

From near and far, people will travel to be part of what is a magical opportunity to connect in this very special and defining TMA year. Be part of this gala experience, and I hope to see you there. Register for the Annual so you, too, can light the way forward as the next chapter of TMa Tomorrow unfolds. Space is limited, and time is tight, so register for the Annual today!

Lastly, this week, I wanted to share an inside TMA story about the noble and hard work of the TMA Global Nominations Committee, who, during the course of the last five months, has diligently worked at making the selections of TMA leaders who will serve on 2024 TMA Global Executive Board and Board of Trustees, including our 2024 Global President, first-ever President-Elect and first-ever VP of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

The committee’s final meeting hosted by TMA Nominations Committee Chair and Global Immediate Past Chair Matthew English, CTP, in his home city of San Francisco, brought together TMA Nominations Committee Members from all throughout TMA Nation and who represent different and defining demographics that show the best of who we are in TMA.

I am profoundly proud of the diligence and dedication of these leaders, who so selflessly gave of their time to work together in creating a 2024 leadership slate that reflects the best and brightest volunteer leaders in the corporate restructuring, reorganization, and corporate health space.

Thank you to TMA Global Immediate Past Chair and Committee Chair Matthew English, CTP, for your steady leadership of this committee as well as committee members Jenny Faubion from TMA Northwest, Brian Gleason, CTP, TMA Certification Oversight Committee Chair and Global VP of Education, Jack O’Conner, President-Elect of TMA Chicago-Midwest and former Global NextGen co-chair, Rob Patrick, Chapter President’s Counsel Chair, and TMA Europe President Eva Ringelspacher along with advisor TMA Global Chair Jane Mitnick for a collective effort that together we should all admire and celebrate given how much it means to the future of our defining organization.

As always, thanks for taking the time to listen today. In that one connection that is you, your input is critical, your contributions paramount, and your engagement the foundation that will create a better TMA for all of our members.

Until next time, I’m Scott Stuart.  Be safe, resilient, and TMA Proud.
