CEO Speaks Transcript 10.1.22

Happy Saturday and welcome to CEO Speaks for Saturday October 1, 2022.

Fall is in the air, and with the brisk crisp fall air comes the joy of all that Boston will hold at our Annual Conference just one month away. We already have nearly 600 registrants you will certainly want to be part of this TMA extravaganza in Boston that will celebrate that one connection that makes us 10,000 connections strong.

That one connection is about the connections you make. The education that connects us through learning. And the comradery of connectivity through networking, and of course the stories we make about being better together, when we are together, as many of you and I will be when we meet just a few weeks from now.

In case you haven’t yet heard about the lineup of timely topics and real world discussions we are planning for Annual, let me share just a few.

Starting with the C Suite Industry Luminaries Spilling the Beans: A Futuristic Look at the Restructuring Landscape, there you'll be treated to the vision of what the restructuring world of tomorrow will look like as told by industry leaders Holly Etlin, Alix Partners, John Ferrara, Captone, Jay Goffman, Teneo and Nick Leopard, Accordian.

There will be practical programs that talk to real time real world struggles as in the Tech Revolution, Blazing a New Trail Into The Metaverse where this team of tech experts will explore the challenges presented by Big Data, including automation and AI in legal processes along with the future of privacy consideration.

And to show there is something for everybody, for those looking at the growing fraud issues coming out of the pandemic, join the Fraud and Field Examiners: Finding Benedict Arnold panel that will talk about real world issues and fraud examiner best practices in a new age of fraud schemes all too common in recent years.

And not one but two international panels will show not only the global reach of the TMA brand, but the depth of that one connection that takes us around the globe to bring TMA talent and knowledge to you.

It will start with the Geopolitical Considerations around COVID and the War in Ukraine, a session that will be moderated by former TMA Tennessee President Ulos Anderson of Gordon Brothers, and will feature former TMA Europe and Italy President Enrica Maria Ghia and TMA Brazil President Luiz Fabiano Saragiotto.

And in a special Friday morning bonus panel, hear about the evolving crisis of the Everglade Group, when Jason Boland of Norton Rose Fulbright, Tanya Meerovich, CFA, FTI Consulting, Senior Managing Director, and Steve Wilamowsky, of ArentFox Schiff, speak to one of the most complex cross boarder matters in overlapping jurisdictions from New York to the Cayman Island and Hong Kong too. Law, politics, and creditors rights all at play center of this fascinating and intriguing real time evolving case study, coming to you exclusively through TMA.

If you haven’t yet registered for TMA Annual, I urge you to do so today. It is the best way to make your one connection that many more connections deep will evolve from, and for you to be part of an event that will leave you thirsting for more opportunities that define the power of TMA worldwide.

With our hotel block close to selling out, you will want to be there, and be part of this gala event that celebrates everything that TMA represents all over the world. It starts with one connection, and that one connection is - YOU.

And speaking of the presence and power of TMA, last week I along with former TMA Australia President and Chair Cameron Belyea, had the privilege and honor to speak at the Nexia, Turnaround, Restructuring and Insolvency Conference held in Dubai, UAE.

At this special opportunity in a program moderated by Rainer Haas & Kollegen, a Cologne and San Paulo based restructuring consultant, and Nexia TRI partner, Cameron and I shared our views on the post pandemic restructuring landscape from the US, European, and Australian-vantage points, sparking lively discussion amongst the attendees from the Middle East, Africa and Europe about the coming recession, worldwide economic stresses, the reaction of emerging economies, and the wild card factors that will effect business and economics worldwide for years to come.

I am grateful to Nexia TRI Chair Kevin Clancy of CohnReznick for including TMA in this important and impactful thought leadership conference, where we engaged, discussed, debated and learned new world perspectives that I look forward to sharing with many of you.

That is the power of one connection and how that connection expands even beyond the borders of TMA, and highlights to others how our TMA connections and the knowledge we share make us all a community that is better together for each other, and for Cameron and I, TMA proud and TMA strong.

Lastly today, as many of you witnessed and some first-hand experienced, the power of nature and how it affects us all was at the forefront this week, as Hurricane Ian, quite possibly the most powerful and devastating Hurricane to make landfall in the continental US, created a wrath of harm and destruction in the state of Florida.

While many of our friends and colleagues suffered through this great storm, know that your TMA community stands with you and for you and will do what we can to support and assist you as you emerge from this great natural tragedy.

Next week we will share how you can contribute to the relief effort in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, a somber reminder that as citizens of the world, we stand for and with each other to aide those in need, showing yet another side of what better together means to us all.

As always, thanks for taking the time to listen today. In this year of Innovation through Disruption, your input is critical, your contributions paramount and your engagement the foundation that will create a better TMA for all our members.

Thanks for taking the time to listen today. Until next time, I’m Scott Stuart. Be safe, resilient, and TMA Proud.
