Ulos is responsible for the management of the wholesale business with daily interaction with clients and customers. He first became associated with Gordon Brothers in 2001 and joined as a full-time employee in 2002, bringing 26 years of management experience. Ulos held a variety of senior-level positions at Dollar General Corporation (a national 11,000-store chain); he was Divisional Vice President at Service Merchandise Corporation, where he supervised the teams responsible for its electronics, housewares and appliances divisions; and he held several positions with increasing responsibility at the McCrory Stores Corporation and TG&Y Stores. Ulos is a member of both the regional and national Turnaround Management Association. He also serves on the board of the Tennessee Turnaround Management Association. He received his BS in Business Administration from Jackson State University in Jackson, MS.

Ulos has experience in a variety of sectors, including: aerospace & defense;  agriculture,  wholesale apparel & footwear; automotive; consumer electronics; ceramics, glass & potteries; chemicals & pharmaceuticals; construction equipment; corporate offices & equipment; electronics & semi-conductors; energy, power generation & distribution; food & beverage; food processing equipment;  furniture; home categories; IT, telecom, data processing & network; machine tools; metals & metalworking; mining; oil & gas; plastics; printing; pulp, paper & cardboard; rolling stock, transport & logistics; ship building, port & marine; steel production & processing; store fixtures; television & hard media; textiles & apparel manufacturing; toys; warehouse & material handling; woodworking & timber processing.

Spent the last 20 plus years as an executive in troubled companies. Operational experience includes development and execution of performance enhancement strategies, expense reduction and rationalization plans, asset disposition, mergers and acquisitions, and bankruptcy.

Interim CEO for BMS, Inc, a southern California software company, Interim COO for JJB, a UK based sporting goods retailer, CRO for Movie Gallery/Hollywood Video, a home entertainment specialty retail chain that operated more than 2600 stores in North America, as well as Friedman’s, Inc., a retail jewelry business that at its peak operated more than 700 stores in 22 states.

Plan Administrator for Service Merchandise, a retail business that once generated $4 billion in annual revenues. Managed all aspects of the retail liquidation and bankruptcy process, including planning and negotiation of section 363 sale process and resulting asset purchase agreement, overhead reduction, conversion to wind-down platform, claims resolution and avoidance action recovery.

CAO and General Counsel and Secretary at both Friedman’s and Service Merchandise. Led a variety of functions including real estate, construction, human resources, legal, loss prevention, I.T., purchasing, and communications.

As a senior level executive, Norm has spent his entire 30 year retail career in the secondary market working for a variety of organizations including Grocery Outlet, a privately held west coast retail chain, Big Lot’s, a public national 1400 store closeout operator and more recently, Bargain Hunt, an 89 store Nashville base company owned by private equity.   In addition to his brick and mortar experience, he has managed several wholesale and ecommerce operations focusing on extreme value opportunities.
 In his capacity as a senior merchant, he has evaluated, purchased and sold hundreds of millions of dollars of distressed inventory from a variety of sources including CPG companies, barter channel, insurance salvage and related asset dispositions from liquidating and bankrupt companies.  More recently, his expertise has expanded to the fast growing field of reverse logistics as national retailors seek to optimize their returns and unproductive inventory.  Given decades of front line experience, Norm is uniquely qualified to understand the ultimate value of distressed retail inventories.
