Susan Smith has over thirty years of experience in financial advisory services including: turnaround management, bankruptcy and restructuring consulting, and litigation support. Susan has advised companies and their creditors in manufacturing, financial and professional services, business services, and real estate investment and development industries. Ms. Smith is well known for her ability to delve beyond the symptoms of financial problems and determine actual causes and real solutions. She has served as both financial advisor and Interim CFO for companies in need of financial improvement. Ms. Smith has testified in federal court numerous times to support her clients through debtor in possession financing and plan of reorganizations. She has provided expert testimony on insolvency, preference, and fraudulent transfer adversary actions. Susan also assists clients with negotiations and communications with Boards of Directors, lenders, and government agencies.
Ms. Smith joined GlassRatner (now doing business as B. Riley Advisory Services) in 2014, and is based in Tampa. Prior to coming to the firm, Susan worked on projects throughout the United States, first for KPMG's financial advisory group, and then as Senior Vice President at Mesirow Financial Consulting, a national consulting firm.
Jason Alpert, Senior Vice President, leads Wells Fargo’s workout group for wholesale banking relationships in Florida. Jason’s team of lenders services a portfolio of high-risk and distressed commercial relationships, restructuring and resolving problem loans in a mutually beneficial manner. Additionally, Jason leads the Bank’s national portfolio sale team, effectuating the strategy of selling commercial distressed debt in the secondary market. Jason is highly decorated Banker at Wells Fargo, having been awarded both the bank’s Golden Spoke and Pinnacle Awards.
Jason is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Tampa teaching “Introduction to Global Business” and was named “Most Outstanding Part-Time Faculty Member” in 2022. Jason’s most rewarding work his is work with various non-profits, including leading the turnaround of a local Title-1 charter school servicing a low-income population. Jason serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Risk Management Association Journal and the West Florida RMA Chapter. Jason has been published multiple times in the RMA Journal and won Credit Risk Article of the Year in 2018. He is also a Judge in the University of Florida’s annual Next Big Idea Business Case Competition and was recently named a “40 under 40” honoree in the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
Cameron Childs joined Directed Capital in 2008. He directs a team of portfolio managers and analysts engaged in the Company’s asset acquisition activity including deal sourcing, underwriting, valuation and execution. Mr. Childs ensures the Company maintains its underwriting standards while adhering to the bid and closing timeframes expected by sellers. Mr. Childs has also been responsible for directing the team’s efforts to increase the Company’s acquisition opportunities by expanding its extensive national network of contacts. In prior roles with the Company, Mr. Childs has worked across the platform including financial analysis, asset management, and providing support in the Company’s capital formation activities.
Mr. Childs received his Master of Science in Management and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Florida and Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of South Florida - St. Petersburg. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
Edward J. Peterson, III specializes in the representation of debtors and creditors in out-of-court workouts and bankruptcy cases and proceedings. Edward also has experience representing creditor committees. Moreover, Edward specializes in commercial litigation in all courts, including litigation involving directors and officers.
Edward is the managing partner of the firm's Pensacola office and is actively engaged in various representations in Alabama and Florida.
In addition, Edward has represented both assignors and assignees in assignments for the benefit of creditors. Currently, Edward serves as counsel for the assignee in the assignment cases of Laser Spine Institute and related entities.
