Many believe that New York will soon legalize recreational use marijuana, which is predicted to be a boon for farmers, small business owners, and manufacturers, as well as a welcome alternative to addictive opioids for those suffering from chronic pain and other illnesses.
However, because marijuana remains illegal on the federal level, state law legalization alone will not overcome numerous hurdles for cannabis businesses, including obstacles related to banking and finance, insolvency and restructuring, interstate commerce, and other federally regulated areas.
