Who is TMA? 
Turnaround Management Association (TMA) (non for profit) is the most professionally diverse organization in the corporate restructuring, renewal, and corporate health space. We are a community of professionals who work with companies to improve performance, manage disruption, restructure, work through insolvency, preserve equity, and drive significantly improved results. Established in 1988 and located in downtown Chicago on Wacker Drive, TMA has nearly 10,000 members in 54 chapters worldwide, including 35 North American chapters. Members include turnaround practitioners, attorneys, accountants, advisors, liquidators, and consultants, as well as academic, government employees, And members of the judiciary. TMA provides members the opportunity to network and attend educational sessions to  hone skills and expand their contacts.

Editor- In- Chief
Turnaround Management Association (TMA) is searching for an experienced Editor who will primarily be responsible for producing the monthly Journal of Corporate Renewal, the official publication of TMA. The qualified candidate will be someone who takes initiative, has strong written and verbal communication skills, proofreading abilities, project management skills, and precise attention to detail.  

What is the Opportunity? 
Under the leadership of the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, the position is responsible for TMA’s publication of the Journal of Corporate Renewal, which is published nine times a year and sent to TMA members and subscribers.  More specifically, the qualified individual would be responsible for the following:

  • Develop annual editorial calendars in collaboration with the volunteer Editorial Advisory Board.
  • Work with the volunteer Editorial Advisory Board to gather feature articles for each issue of the Journal of Corporate Renewal and with TMA staff to generate association features and promotional material for the Journal.
  • Edit feature articles, columns, and association features to ensure compliance with TMA style and editorial policies; write draft columns for TMA officers and guest editors when requested.
  • Prepare layout, including ad placements, for each issue.
  • Oversee designer’s work, including proofreading of issues, artwork approval, ad placement, timely delivery of electronic files to the printer including mailing list, and review of printer proofs.
  • Ensure that production costs stay within expected and acceptable ranges; prepare RFQs and collect bids when required.
  • Attend TMA conferences and other events as required to perform duties as directed.
  • Vendor management, including contract negotiation and management.
  • Collaborate with TMA staff on the coordination of Journal content with other educational vehicle outlets.
  • Provide support for newsletters, social media, PR campaigns, and thought leadership pieces internally and for leaders of the organization. Serve as a freelance writer as required. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned or as needed.


Job Location: Flexible hybrid work arrangement with three days in the office (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) and other days virtual. 
Relocation assistance will not be provided for out-of-state candidates.
TMA requires employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as defined by the CDC unless a religious or medical exemption is granted.

What qualifications are needed?  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or similar required.
  • Five plus years’ experience in publications writing, editing, and publishing.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including proficiency with AP Stylebook.
  • Legal/business background a plus.
  • Database and website experience a plus.
  • Strong proofreading, organizational skills and great attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact well with staff, management team, volunteer leaders, and guest editors/authors.
  • Ability to execute and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting internal and external deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel nationally (up to four times a year) to assist with TMA’s events.
